Waiting for your Child to Arrive

E-mail PDF

Depending on where your adopted child comes from there is so much paperwork and waiting.

Most people want to know how long it is between when they commence the process and when their child will come home.

Depending on where you adopt from the wait can vary from 1 month to 18 months.  The waiting times depend on how specific you have been in your criteria and luck.

If you are adopting from overseas, before a child is eligible for adoption their circumstances must be thoroughly investigated by that country’s relevant adoption body.

But there are lots of things you can do to prepare for your adopted child.

We suggest you start reading as much as you can about adopting inter-racial children and making contact with other adoptive and prospective adoptive parents.

The following is a list of books that we recommend you read as part of your adoption journey.  Most are available from Amazon. These are just a starter, get online and see what is out there!
